Press Release, Dec 26, 2005
CSQL, a main memory storage engine prototype gives ultra high performance compared to traditional disk based database management systems.
Modern applications are transaction-intensive, demanding very high responsiveness and real time data access to support increased transaction volumes with minimal latency. Main memory database management systems, like Timesten, DataBlitz are 10 times faster than disk based database systems due to its inherent main memory architecture. A main memory DBMS prototype named CSQL, is developed with complete storage engine capabilities such as hash indexing, undo logging, transaction and lock manager, etc. This prototype delivered 25 times higher response time compared to MySQL, a leading open source disk based management system.
This prototype will be productized and will be available for users under dual licensing model, commercial license for enterprise applications and GPL for FOSS applications. CSQL takes 5 microsecs for point lookup as compared to hundreds of microsecs taken by disk-based databases. Write operations are around 15 times faster than disk based DBMS. CSQL provides proprietary C++ interface called DBAPI for data manipulation and definition operations. SQL support will be planned in the future releases.
